MAC Wash and Dry - Summer 2015

Excuse me while I finish drooling over this photo...

I look forward to summer makeup collections every year the same way I look forward to Christmas. There's always the anticipation of what the color trend will be, who will put out the most creative eye candy as well as the important release date. MAC seems to consistently hold the top spot with their one of a kind color creations and genius summer themed packaging. This year's collection, Wash and Dry, might be their best yet! These little gems release on May 21st. I'll be up at midnight ordering (hopefully not still drooling).

Morphe Makeup Brushes

After hearing about Morphe Brushes on YouTube, I decided to take the plunge and see what all the rage is about. Word on the street is that these incredibly inexpensive brushes (all these totaled around $35 with shipping!) have the same integrity as the cult favorite ones - such as MAC, Sephora, etc. It took almost 3 weeks to receive my order. Grrr. But I get it... they came from a small store located in California, where they must be inundated with orders from other beauty snobs like me who are looking to get their hands on the next best thing. Let me tell you, I'm glad I jumped on the bandwagon. As you can see, I purchased all (except one) eye brushes. I figured if they were crap, I could end up using them as backups when my beloved brushes were dirty. They perform as well as most of my others, particularly the first three listed.  As I use them more, I'll get a better sense of their durability and whether or not I'll add some of their face brushes to the mix. Oh and a side note: The M164 Small Angled Contour is much smaller than I expected and I'm a little baffled by it. If a doll came with a contour brush - I would assume it would look like this. In the end, I can't imagine ever giving up on my staple brushes I've adored and collected over the years. But if I can get new additions, at a fraction of the cost - I'll make room for the cheapies ;)

Yes, I'm Alive

I know, I know. 3 months is a long time. Its like, a maternity leave... a season of Big Brother... Botox's lifecycle (so I've heard). Unfortunately, none of those apply to my reason for being missing in action. Let's just say there was a little "conflict of interest". AKA a complicated story put short and sweet. But, I'm back, I'm pumped and I'm so ready to pour my heart out with all of the amazing products I've found and put to the test. Stay tuned!

Mask Me

This time of year, there are friendly reminders that summer is unfortunately over. The leaves start turning, apples are abundant in grocery stores, some people feel the need to prematurely break out their Uggs. Ugh. But its also a good reminder that my skin needs a good summer detox. As an oily-skinned girl, I'm easily prone to breakouts and clogged pores which is why I always have a variety of facial masks on rotation. I've tried many, but here are my current faves:

GlamGlow Youthmud

I feel like I just walked out of a facial appointment after using this. This mud mask has amazing ingredients that exfoliate, reduce pores and pull all the clogged nastiness to the surface. In the end, my skin literally glows just like the brand promises. Its quite a splurge price wise, but at Sephora they have a mini size near the registers for $19.

Fresh Rose Face Mask

Boston based Fresh has never steered me wrong with their products. I stumbled upon this mask as a free sample with my purchase. Its a heavenly, cooling gel with a mild, natural (not your grandma's) rose scent. I usually use this in conjunction with the Youthmud Mask as it is a luxurious ending to the detox. The pure rosewater tones the skin while the aloe vera and cucumber soothe and hydrate.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Want another reason to embrace Fall? This pumpkin mask is it! It smells amazing you might forget that its for your face. Exfoliates, peels and polishes are its claims and it delivers immediately. With heavy duty alpha hydroxy acid, this is a must for my oily skin but those with sensitive skin may need to use with caution. The only downsize is its difficult to locate in stores but PTR and Sephora carry it on their websites.

Till next time!

Lashes: Love & Loathe

As I sit in a restaurant wondering what my next blog discussion will be, I overhear two mothers talking about how beautiful and long their kids’ lashes are. Also, how women would pay big bucks for those. Let me stop by telling you that I have a love hate relationship with my lashes. They are very straight. To the point where they, well, point downwards. If I had a full face of makeup on with no lashes, I may as well wash my face off and then head out the door. Mascara absolutely completes every look. Here’s the love part….I love love LOVE Shu Eumera’s eyelash curler. Its a must for me. I actually buy a bunch at a time online since they are no longer in the US. Its the only product to get those suckers to stand up. So, here’s the hate part… It took me many years to find the perfect mascara. Every top selling brand failed on me. They all weighed my perfectly Shu curled, erect (whoa.) lashes down. I guess the formulas were very thick, which for people with normal, well behaved lashes was probably what made their lashes look amazing. Another thing I should mention is that I am 100% committed to waterproof formulas. My eyes get irritated easily and I’m paranoid of a potential raccoon look. I’ll spare you the long list of what I’ve tried and just give you my faves:

Lancôme Definiciles Waterproof in Black for my every day look
Lancôme Hypnose Drama Waterproof in Black for when I want big fatty lashes
The only cons with these, and I’m assuming probably most waterproof formulas, is that they flake a little bit and are difficult to get off. I currently use Dior’s makeup remover which is the best eye makeup remover I’ve ever used. It will last you a long time and your lashes will love you long time ;)
